Subhash Ghai conducts 'Masterclass' at IIFW gathering for Fox History channel

Director Sudhir Mishra interviewed film maker Subhash Ghai at the IIFW (Indian Independent Filmmakers Worldwide), an association of independent film makers at Blue Frog in Mumbai on 14th June, 2010. Recorded for Fox history channel, the interaction proved to be an engrossing and enriching one, a treat for cine buff, surely.

Subhash Ghai, with a body work of 18 mainstream classic films behind him, boasts of thirteen super hits at the box office such as 'Taal', 'Karz', 'Khalnayak' and 'Black and White', among others, revealed some smart secrets behind making of his varied repertoire.

He shared his strength and fascination for big scale cinema, music, drama and his strategy of creating new stars. When queried by the gathering of film makers and filmstudents in the two-hour session, Subhash Ghai revealed that in his childhood he was more fascinated by cinema makers like David Lean, Billy Wilder, Guru Dutt and Mehboob Khan, rather than the stars on screen .

Music, cinematography and film direction always held greater attraction for Ghai, as opposed to stars and matinee idols whom audiences practically worship today. Ghai maintains that he loves to introduce new actors to cinedom, and prefers to focus more on the writing and direction than on a star.

States Ghai with his characteristic humour, ''Real actors follow the script, while in case of stars it is the script which has to follow them." That, incidentally, ranks among one of the gems that Ghai unveiled during his humourous and educational interaction with the audience.
