MAY 14, 2011 - Subhash Ghai's Mukta Searchlight Films has come up with the music launch of Rituparno Ghosh ' NOUKADUBI, in a very unique, innovative and exciting way on Saturday, May 14th in the river Ganges in Kolkata.
The much awaited film NOUKADAUBI by multiple national award winning director and master craftsman of our time, Rituparno Ghosh besides having a momentous music release, the idea was also to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore with a musical and chat session
The story revolves around various emotions of the characters generated through unavoidable circumstances of misunderstandings and since the backdrop was focused on river and sinking of boat they thought of an interesting idea of organizing an activity on river Ganges.
The thematic boat sailed en route via Princep Ghat, Babughat, Outram Ghat, Armenian Ghat, Ahiritola Ghat etc (all popular and historical ghats of Kolkata) from 6pm -9pm..
The boat stopped for few minutes in all the prominent ghats where the artists gave away the music CDs to the public. It was followed by a press-meet and the music launch in the banquet hall followed by cocktails and dinner. Apart from the music launch there was a separate boat 'Noukadubi Gaaner Bhela' (means Noukadubi – vessel of music), branded with movie collaterals and decorated with flowers and lights, sailed to various ghats with the music of 'Noukadubi' playing in it. The music of NOUKADUBI is composed by Sanjay Das/Rajnarayan Deb.
Film maker Subhash Ghai, as a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore 150th anniversary will be releasing the multi-lingual film on May 20th, since the film is based on his work. After giving beautiful gems like Iqbal and Joggers' Park, Ghai with his Mukta Searchlight Films, wants to take good Bengali cinema on a global scale
The magic and imagery of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's words will once again cast a spell over the audience when his NOUKADUBI in Bengali and Hindi , a tale of four cross-wired lovers, gets a mainstream makeover in director Rituparno Ghosh's film by the same name.
Nouka Dubi will gain much attention for its content that was considered rather broadminded and progressive during Tagore's time. All these years later, the film will be a mainstream progressive Bollywood-style story from 'Galpa Cuccha' (Collection of Stories published in 1912).
Says director Rituparno Ghosh "The idea of making a film on Noukadubi germinated while we were shooting for Abohoman. I would discuss with Titoda (Dipankar De) if there's any place for Bengali literature in popular cinema because there's a tendency to classify any literature-based film as an art film.. Noukadubi has to be seen from the point of that period's conventional morality. Chastity plays a major role in the film. Morality is very important. A new bride who has lived with another man over a period of time returns to her husband.
I felt Noukadubi has all the ingredients of a mainstream, rather popular, film. It's basically a tale of wife-swapping — a couple is separated and there's a lot of melodrama. Noukadubi won't have the complicated narrative of Chokher Bali"
The film produced by Subhash Ghai stars well known Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Raima Sen and Riya Sen. The supporting cast are Dhritiman Chatterjee
Apratim Dhar , Sumanta Mukherjee, Sagar Mukherjee, Ammu Chatterjee, Maria Chatterjee.
The Film is slated for theatrical release worldwide on May 20, 2011 both in the Bengali and Hindi version (Kashmakash).
