Subhash Ghai is back in the saddle. After a hiatus of four years, the showman of Hindi cinema is back doing what he does best, which is make movies. Currently, the director has finished work on his new film, Black & White, which is awaiting release next month. But the director is also working hard on his next film, Yuvraaj, which falls more easily into the mainstream mode of films.
The first schedule of the film was held in Austria, while the second schedule of the film begins in Mumbai today. The film stars his favourite Anil Kapoor, along with Salman Khan, Zayed Khan, Boman Irani and Katrina Kaif. The film’s music, which is always the highlight of any Subhash Ghai film, is composed by AR Rahman, while the lyrics are by Gulzar. Explaining his hiatus from filmmaking, the showman says that he was busy making filmmakers in these last four years. The director was busy setting up his institute for films, television and media arts. The institute is also a labour of love as the filmmaker has been working on it for the last ten years, or so he says. He says that it took him four years to set up the curriculam, make the building, and get the faculty ready. Looking into the future, he says that in ten years, some 5,000 youth would have graduated from his institute and Bollywood would be flooded by them. The showman is now looking forward to the release of Black & White first, and of course, completing Yuvraaj. He would love to erase the memories of the dismal show of Kisna and Yaadein. But like he said, he has given 11 hits in 16 years. So can we expect fireworks at the box office from the Ghai stable this year? |
