The shoot of Subhash Ghai's Paying Guest had unwelcome guests on its sets in Pattaya yesterday. Filming was stalled for a few hours as numerous Indian tourists wanted to have a dekko of the desi stars.
Several B-Town films are being shot in Thailand. To add to that, several Indians holiday there. As a result, filming on the streets proves to be a daunting task.
The shoot was at Pattaya's famed Walking Street, that is known for its bars, pubs and nightlife. The film, directed by debutant Paritossh Painter, is a comic caper.
Celina Jaitly, Neha Dhupia, Riya Sen, Shreyas Talpade, Sayali Bhagat, Aashish Chaudhary, Vatsal Sheth and Javed Jaffrey were shooting a song sequence when the milling crowds sent matters out of control.
"Even though we had taken the necessary permission from the authorities, things went totally haywire," says Paritossh. "The entire cast was present. Initially there were a few onlookers, but then the crowds swelled and soon, there were hundreds of them! The place is full of places to hang out. As word spread, even those who were comfortably seated in the pubs, came out to see what was happening on the streets."
When the cops arrived, they called off the shoot due to the commotion onlookers were causing. "The cast was then forced to take off to one of the pubs in the vicinity till the crowd dispersed. We could not shoot for three hours," adds Paritossh who has also penned the film along with Balwinder Singh Suri. Later they had to shift to the Pattaya-Bangkok motorway to complete the shoot of the song.
